The story of MAK Magic starts with Ulysses Fredrick Grant who was born in Millerton, New York on January 12, 1901, and would become one of the greatest minds in modern day magic.
Grant was the great, great grandson of President Ulysses S. Grant.
Gen as he was called by family and friends,
became interested in magic at a very young age after his step-father took him to a magic show at the circus. Gen followed the magician all day.
In the early twenties, Grant began to sell magic effects and props out of his Pittsfield, Massachusetts home. After living in New York and then in Colon Michigan, where he worked for the Abbott Magic and Novelty Company, Grant built a reputation as a developer of good solid magic.
In the early forties, he moved to Columbus, Ohio with his new bride and set up the U.F. Grant Magic Company. Around 1944 he hooked up with R.N. Menge and began to produce products under the name G & M.
Gen struggled with diabetes and eventually turned the business over to his daughter Maryanne and her husband Jim King. The business then became MAK Magic.
Mak Magic is now strictly a wholesale distributor with customers around the world.
